the news, conflicting (2021, 25.5cm x 16.5cm each, watercolour on paper) As a second-generation immigrant of the Hong Kong diaspora, consuming the news is a form of connection with my family’s background. In pairs, the paintings mirror each other, replicating the imagery and statements of the same course of events presented by two differing news sources. News bias is ever-present. The disparity is shown especially in the portrayal of the Hong Kong protests from Chinese and western sources, dividing even more so of two extreme sides.
